The lockdown is taking effect: only 2,748 new infections were recorded on Monday.
The new infections since the last report are divided among the federal states of Austria as follows:
Burgenland: 107
Carinthia: 180
Lower Austria: 619
Upper Austria: 521
Salzburg: 232
Styria: 343
Tyrol: 268
Vorarlberg: 112
Vienna: 366
The number of new coronavirus infections detected in Austria within 24 hours fell below the 3,000 mark for the first time again on Monday with 2,748 cases. At a press conference on the corona app in Vienna, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) spoke of “slight declines for a few days”, but a still “dramatically high level”.
On Mondays, the confirmed new corona virus infections are always lower, because over the weekend laboratories feed fewer test results into the Epidemiological Reporting System EMS than on weekdays. Anschober therefore presented a comparison of the previous assembly in November, the month with the “massively highest values” in the context of the pandemic in Austria. According to the minister, 5,993 new cases were registered on the first Monday of the month, one week later there were 4,657, then 4,135 on November 16, 3,145 last Monday and now, on the last of the month, 2,748.
About 15,000 tests
Getting below the 3,000 mark is “good and should give us motivation,” said the department head. However, only about 15,000 tests were registered, significantly less than the November average, which was almost 30,000 tests per day.
Fortunately, the number of recoveries was significantly higher than the number of new coronavirus infections. According to Anschober, the number of recoveries within 24 hours was 4,694, although 79 deaths have occurred since Sunday. In hospitals, the number of Covid-19 patients increased by 89, in intensive care units by ten to a total of 701 seriously ill patients.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, there have been a total of 282,456 infections with SARS-CoV-2 and 3,184 deaths related to it since the beginning of the pandemic in Austria. According to these figures, the number of convalescents rose to a total of 221,692. 3,639 normal beds in hospitals throughout Austria were occupied with corona patients on Monday.
